acting finance director at Nairobi Hospital Erick Maigo.

Murdered acting Nairobi Hospital's finance director Erick Maigo was an amiable man.

Sources aware of his persona described him as a man of the people; friendly and kind to a fault.

At the time of his death, Maigo, aged 26, was not married.

Each morning, as Maigo strolled past his colleagues at The Nairobi Hospital, a warm cup of his favourite tea in hand, he never failed to greet them before commencing his day's work.

“He was a joyous person who was very kind. In fact, on Thursday morning he came to the office happy and he carried tea from one of the restaurants nearby as he greeted us here at the hospital,” a colleague told the Star on Friday.

His colleague who sought anonymity said Maigo was a person who used to smile a lot with people.

“He was a kind-hearted person. A tall dark man who was always smart in the office. He would always wear his spectacles and that is what made him to be the person he was,” the source said.

Another colleague remembered Maigo as a man who had an infectious love for smiling and a smart outlook on life.

His friendly disposition, the colleague said, made his colleagues cherish his presence.

A day before his death, Thursday,  Maigo had a normal routine at work.

“After his normal routine of greeting us, Maigo went to have a meeting on matters of budget with one of the clients,” the source said.

He was held up in the meeting until around 8 pm when he left to go home.

“He left as usual and we said our byes. We did not know that we were going to lose him. It is sad that we are unable to see him again. This news has really weighed on us,” the sources added.

Maigo was Friday morning found murdered in his house in Woodley estate, Nairobi.

His assailant, a female who had probably spent the night at the house or accessed it in the morning escaped minutes before police arrived.

Kilimani police boss Moss Ndiwa confirmed the murder, saying investigators were pursuing a suspect.

Neighbours at the Woodley Annex apartment said they heard Maigo groaning in pain.

They decided to go to his door and knocked it only to be confronted by a woman who informed them all was well and she was looking for the keys to open.
