Esther Passaris has defended MP Salasya after he went viral over his Climate Change remarks.

The first time MP became the joke of the town after he failed to answer questions directed to him by local blogs.

Speaking during an interview with NTV, Passaris shared;

“I can relate to where he came from. Mumias, the area he represents, are cane farmers and their issues have more to do with the management of institutions rather than the climate effect on their crop.

On the other hand, unemployment is a big issue for most of our youth, and when they are dealing with that, they are not able to relate unemployment to climate change,”

Further adding;

“We have to understand that as an MP, the citizens who voted for him are more concerned with maybe housing, medical facilities, bursaries or jobs.”

The legislator came under fire on Monday over his poor grasp of climate change matters.

Salasya in a statement on Tuesday said those criticizing him should try to vie for political office, with their good mastery of English.

He insisted that Kenyan politics remains local and that he was not elected to talk about climate change.

"All those criticizing me on Twitter on how I responded on #spm about #climatechange wakwende Uko na kizungu Yao wasimame kura pia wawe wabunge (Let them go with their English and vie for office to become MPs) in their constituencies. Politics ni local wakwende na kizungu Yao. I was not elected to talk about climate change muskie," Salasya said.

In a video seen by the Star, the MP was asked how he is championing climate change and if he has a plan to help the state fight climate change, but could not give a clear answer.

Kenyans who saw the video going viral called him out, saying that someone of his stature should have an idea of what the summit is about.
