Kipchumba Murkomen, the cabinet secretary for transportation, has expressed regret over the power outage that occurred at Jomo Kenyatta International Airport (JKIA) on Friday evening.
Murkomen stated that there was no justification for the occurrence in a statement on Friday night.
"I am really sorry for what has happened at JKIA with the blackout. There is no excuse worth reporting and there is no reason why our airport is in darkness," he said.
The CS added that he would make a statement on Saturday on the power outage.
"I will be announcing the decision we will make tomorrow 9am at JKIA after a meeting with the leadership of the airport," Murkomen said.
A nationwide outage that struck the entire nation included the airport among its victims.
The loss of electricity on Friday night was also confirmed by the counties of Nairobi, Kiambu, Siaya, and Kisumu.
Those impacted included travellers at the immigration and luggage claim areas of JKIA.
However, power was restored on Saturday morning at JKIA, in a few locations in Nairobi, and in the Mt. Kenya region.
