Regarding Friday's nationwide power outage, Parliament has summoned Kenya Power CEO Joseph Siror and Energy Cabinet Secretary Davis Chirchir.

The two will testify before the National Assembly's Energy committee on Thursday of the next week, which is chaired by Mwala MP Vincent Musyoka.

The two were instructed by a dispatch from the committee secretariat to prepare thoroughly for their explanation of the precise cause of the power outage.

The majority of the nation was without power, including Nairobi, the Rift Valley, the Central region, and the Western region.

"The chairman has directed that we summon the CS Energy together with the CEO KPLC on Thursday to explain the cause of the current nationwide black out which has paralysed the nation, including the International Airport," reads the communication in part.

The committee said it was rather embarrassing for the country's international airport-Jomo Kenyatta International Airport(JKIA)- to be in total darkness..

Mwala's committee said responsible authorities should provide a convincing explanation over the incident.

The committee is on a retreat in Mombasa to write its report on the high cost of electricity in the country.

The committee pushed the appearance of Chrichir and Siror to Thursday to enable it complete its task in Mombasa.
