• The controversial pastor and his co-accused have already spent more than 90 days behind bars.

Pastor Mackenzie appears in court.

Controversial pastor Paul Mackenzie has declared that eating is his greatest sin.

In a video that The Star was able to view, Mackenzie made the declaration while seated in court with his fellow defendants.

"Dhambi kubwa ninayoifanya duniani hivi leo mimi, ni kula. Lakini siku nitakapo okoka kutoka dhambi iyo ya kula, nitaishi na yesu milele."

This translates to: "The biggest sin I'm committing right now on earth is eating. And the day that I'll be saved from the sin of eating, I will live with Jesus forever," he said.

Between June 6 and June 10, Mackenzie and his supporters went on a hunger strike, claiming they were being abused while being held.

But because they refused to eat, they were charged in court with attempting suicide.

One of the suspects died as a result of the attack from complications and malnutrition.

The controversial pastor and his co-defendant have already been imprisoned for more than 90 days.

Mackenzie and his 27 companions were held for an additional 47 days starting on August 2 last week.
