In Kiambu County, police officers from the Directorate of Criminal Investigation have found seven dead donkey carcasses.

The meat was being prepared for local consumption, according to the police. The officers discovered the experience during a midnight raid at the scene of the slaughter in Kiahiti village in the Gatune sub-location.

“Earlier, the officers based at Nachu police post had gathered intelligence on the impending slaughter and arrived at the scene on time as the unscrupulous meat vendors slaughtered the donkeys, whose meat finds its way to butcheries and meat joints in the city disguised as beef,” the notice read.

According to DCI, the homeowners were whining because the incessant noises of distressed donkeys were disturbing their sleep.

The detectives also learned that once the animals were killed, dealers removed the boneless meat from their bodies and sold it to city residents who loved meat under the pretense of beef fillets and other boneless chops.

“No flesh is left to waste as the traders also package the donkey intestines, kidneys, and other internal organs which are sold to outlets dealing in popular roadside delicacy, mutura, supu and matumbo,” reads the notice.

They mentioned that they are looking for three suspects who fled the area right now.
