Alice Waweru has finally bid Kenya Airways goodbye after working with the National Carrier for 38 years.

Kenya Airways, on Monday, mounted a surprise ceremonial water cannon as a salute and farewell celebration to one of its long serving cabin crew.

“After nearly 38 years in the skies, Flight Purser Alice Waweru concluded her remarkable journey with the Pride of Africa.

To honour her for the exemplary service, we mounted a ceremonial water cannon salute which took her by surprise. We wish Alice a lifetime of good tailwinds.” KQ said in a statement.

She was also one of the crew on the inaugural flight to New York.

Her tenure as cabin crew, KQ said, came to an end with a final flight to JFK, New York.

Speaking upon landing at the JKIA where she was received by family and friends, Waweru said it has been a pleasure serving as an attendant at the carrier.

"I am so speechless right now. My journey at KQ has been marked by self-development, and now I stand ready for this new chapter and the exploration of new frontiers,” she said.

A "water cannon salute" is a tradition performed by airports worldwide when welcoming a new aircraft after its inaugural flight into the airport.

It is performed by placing two or three fire trucks at even distances from the aircraft and directing streams of water to form a high arch over it.
