The pressure on police chief Japhet Koome continues to mount, with the opposition calling for his immediate resignation after comments made about hired bodies.

Furious opposition leaders continued to put pressure on the Inspector General of Police on Friday, calling his remarks inappropriate at a time when families are coming to terms with the death of loved ones killed by police bullets.

On Tuesday, Koome rejected the opposition's claims of deaths during the protests, claiming that politicians hired bodies from the mortuary to undermine police.

"It is so unfortunate that some senior members of the society go to the mortuary hiring dead bodies, calling the media and telling them that these people were killed by the police. How low can some of our leaders sink?" Koome posed.

Speaking during a funeral service for victims of police violence in Bondo, Siaya county, Azimio leaders urged Koome's dismissal, claiming he is unfit to keep office.

Raila Odinga, Wiper boss Kalonzo Musyoka, and Narc Kenya leader Martha Karua all attended the ceremony, which decried police brutality and encouraged the international community to focus on Kenya.

Following a spate of killings during Azimio protests, the former Vice President declared IG unfit to maintain office.

“The only way he can get away with this is to resign. Even if he resigns, it is not enough. We have been in demonstrations before, but this time it was a war not tear gas. They wanted to finish our people and Raila Odinga,” he claimed.

“My advice today, if there is rule of law in Kenya then the President can also sack him,” he said.

He claimed that police brutality is a problem in Kenya.

"He does not qualify to be the Inspector General of police. How can he say politicians hired bodies?" he said.

Raila termed the brutality meted out on protesters, especially in Luo Nyanza counties, a case of ethnic profiling.

The Azimio chief warned the government against using the same Hitler tactics to profile a community even as he challenged the international community to "come out strongly".

"We want the international community to take note of this. This is unacceptable, we want the diplomatic community in Nairobi not to keep quiet but stand with Kenyans," he said.

"I have lived long in Germany when Hitler targeted the Jews, he came with the final solution and started to attack and kill the Jews the problem started this way."

The former prime minister noted that despite the present Constitution's implementation, the police have not yet become a service.

The following MPs made promises to move an impeachment resolution against Koome: Opondo Kaluma (Homa Bay Town), Joshua Oron (Kisumu Central), Sam Atandi (Alego Usonga), Roza Buyu (Kisumu West), and Otiende Amollo (Rarieda).

“As leaders we must not be crying, the Constitution allows for the bringing of a petition to remove the IG who is rogue,” Opondo said.

Atandi said, “Many of our people have died and this is not the first time, the price of  killing a Luo must now be made expensive. What has happened to us is genocide.”

Koome should be held accountable for his officers' murderous rampage in the areas of dissent, according to Otiende.

He referred to the IG's comments as inappropriate and likened them to someone dancing on the innocent Kenyans' graves.

“We want to tell Koome that instead of doing your work you are busy  dancing on the graves of victims of police brutality. Shame on you,” Otiende stated.
