Former Mungiki leader Maina Njenga has been arrested by police.

He was arrested while in lower Matasia in Ngong and taken to an undisclosed location, his lawyer Ndegwa Njiru says

The family says he was in his father’s house when police in unmarked cards arrived at about 8pm and arrested him.

The team said they wanted to question him over ongoing anti-government protests in the country.

More than five people were shot and 30 injured in separate incidents in the country.

The government says more than 300 people were arrested in the operations.

It is not clear what motivated the police to target Njenga.

His lawyer Njiru said they are yet to know where he was taken.
