Azimio protesters have been told by Interior CS Kithure Kindiki that if they carry out their threats to stage violent demonstrations on Wednesday, Thursday, and Friday, they will be prosecuted.
Kindiki claimed in a statement on Tuesday that security forces have been brought in to prevent violent protests.
"National security agencies have deployed all the available resources to ensure that the scenes witnessed on Wednesday do not happen again. Anyone planning to unleash violence on Kenyans is hereby warned to cease and desist," he said.
The CS continued by stating that Nairobi, among other cities across the nation, experienced violence, anarchy, and the destruction of both private and public property during the July 12 rallies.
"The destruction was done by persons purporting to exercise their Constitutional rights and freedoms. The Country almost degenerated into total chaos perpetrated by criminal elements hiding under the guise of the Article 37 right to assemble, demonstrate, picket and petition public authorities," he said.
Kenyans were further reassured of their safety by CS Kindiki, who also urged them to carry on with their regular daily activities.
He advised individuals who demonstrate to do it legally and without infringing on the rights of others.
