Kithure Kindiki, the cabinet secretary for interior and national administration, has compared aggressive protesters from the opposition to terrorists.
Kindiiki claimed that demonstrators who have recently engaged in willful destruction of property during anti-government protests were no different from terrorists.
Speaking at a security meeting on Saturday in Sondu, the CS claimed that violent protesters have now joined two of the organisations he is combating: bandits in northern Kenya and the terrorist organisation Al Shabaab.
“We have been fighting the Al Shabaab and bandits in northern parts of Kenya but we now another group of criminals who are in politics. They are all in one Whatsapp group,” he stated.
A militant with Al Shabaab and a protester who burns the national flag are the same, the CS emphasised.
“It is a piece of cloth but it is an emblem of our country. When it was hoisted for the first time, we started to rule ourselves. It is a symbol of statehood and burning it is like setting the country on fire,” he explained.
Kindiki vowed to continue taking on criminals all around the nation.
“I will deal with the crooks. They are few because the majority of people are good,” he stated.
Kindiki met with security and intelligence officers, as well as local community leaders, at Sondu, on the boundary of Kericho and Kisumu counties, to discuss peace and security.
Ethnic conflicts have recently occurred in the area.
