Police arrest Saba Saba protesters in the CBD

Dozens of people have been arrested along Harambee Avenue in Nairobi during the start of the Saba Saba rally in Nairobi.

Police in plain clothes arrested the protesters and forced them into a police vehicle.

This was after the police used tear gas to disperse protesters who had started to converge at Harambee Avenue.

Heavy rains appeared to have prevented youth in Opposition strongholds from congregating in the morning as has been witnessed in previous demonstrations against the Kenya Kwanza administration.

Traffic flowed smoothly on Thika Super Highway, Outering Road and Juja Road, as most motorists opted to keep off.

At Kamukunji Grounds, where Azimio leaders will address a rally, youth braved the chilly weather and assembled at the venue.

"The rain will not stop us from holding our maandamano. We must demonstrate against this regime,” said a youth.

The youth danced to various beats to keep warm as they waited for their leaders.
