Falling stone from a construction site hits man to death in Pangani

Police said he died on the spot before they were called to the scene.

A pedestrian died after he was hit by a stone that fell from an upper floor of a house under construction in Pangani area, Nairobi.

Kevin Gikundi was walking past a residential house under construction when a stone fell from the twelfth floor and hit him on the head, police said.

Police said he died on the spot before they were called to the scene.

The body was picked up and moved to the mortuary pending autopsy and further probe.

Police said the construction site was closed pending further probe following the June 30 afternoon incident.

Nairobi police boss Adamson Bungei said they are investigating the incident.

Such incidents have been on the rise amid calls for action on contractors to address the safety issues on the masons and pedestrians.

Some worker slide and fall off to their deaths at such sites.

Officials from the National Construction Authority were called to the scene to join the probe into the incident.

Police and officials from the county government are also investigating the incident.

Meanwhile, a man was burnt to death in an incident in Nairobi’s Korogocho slums.

Police said Julius Kimani Ndungu had been unwell and was sleeping in the house when the fire broke out killing him.

Her husband told police she had left for a local shopping centre when she heard people scream for help and on checking, she found it was her house that was on fire.

The man was burnt to death while therein.

Police arrived there moments later after locals had contained the fire and moved the body to the mortuary.

The issue is under probe, police said.

Elsewhere, police are investigating the death of a man whose body was found on the roadside in Kasarani, Nairobi.

The body of the man aged about 30 was found half naked lying with injuries on the head.

It is suspected the victim was murdered at the scene on July 1 night when the body was found.

A probe is ongoing, police said.
