Police are looking into an incident where a 32-year-old man died after falling from the eighth storey of a hotel in Eastleigh, Nairobi, while attempting to flee the law.

On Sunday, June 25, in the evening, Adam Rashid had reserved a room on the eighth floor of the Sakina Hotel. His friend later joined him for what is believed to have been a smoking and snorting binge.

He had spent two days at the motel. On Sunday, cleaners said they saw smoke from the hotel room where Rashid had been and when they went to check, they found the occupants smoking an unknown substance believed to be narcotics.

Police said that the cleaners summoned the hotel manager, who then informed the guests that smoking was forbidden in hotel rooms as he threatened to contact the police.

Smoking drugs on such a property is against the law. The manager reportedly locked the door to the room where the two were in.

Rashid was compelled by this to attempt to escape through the window while leaving his friend inside.

According to police, he stepped on a skylight roof, which fractured and caused him to fall to the building's second level.

He was taken urgently to Sakina Hospital, where he passed away while receiving treatment for his wounds.

Police who responded to the location reported finding a white substance they thought to be cocaine.

His traumatized companion was interrogated and released on bond while an investigation was ongoing while the body was transferred to the mortuary pending autopsy.

Police claim to be looking into the event.

In the meantime, a mason was killed at a work site in Nairobi's Kahawa West neighborhood when a stone struck him in the head.

Zijenga Wycliffe Ochuo, 38, was among masons at the site when a stone that fell off from the fifth floor hit him in the head.

He was rushed to KU Teaching and Referral Hospital where he died while undergoing treatment.

Police said they are investigating the incident.
