A Nairobi court has heard testimony from Felix Orinda alias DJ Evolve claiming he did not observe Embakasi East MP Babu Owino alias Paul Ongili carrying a gun at a club on the day he was shot.

Orinda stated to Milimani senior Principal magistrate Bernard Ochoi on Thursday that he saw Owino at B club on the evenings of January 16 and 17, 2020, where they conversed as if they were old friends.

He claimed he had no disputes\ with Babu Owino, whom he had met in 2014.

"When I met Owino, he had no gun at the Club and I never saw a firearm that shot me".

"I was having conversations and the next thing I was in a vehicle going to the hospital. I did not see where the bullet came from," Orinda testified.

Orinda was giving testimony in support of Babu Owino, who is accused of using a gun improperly in connection with the club shooting that occurred in 2020.

Owino's support for the DJ ever since the incident has been affirmed by the DJ to the court.

"Owino has been supporting me and continues to support me. I have received medical, utility and general well-being support. No other person has come to support me," he added.

Edwin Otieno, Owino's bodyguard and second witness, stated to the court that his gun had jammed following a prior shooting range.

He claimed that he was Owino's personal assistant and private protection officer at the time of the incident.

Otieno claimed that on that fateful day, he had requested that Owino take the weapon for inspection because it had a technicality.

"I had told Babu Owino to take his gun for a check-up after he said it jammed. I checked and noticed that the firearm had a technical issue," he told the court.

He claimed that if a gun jams, it cannot shoot. When they proceeded to the club, Otieno testified that he witnessed his boss Owino take two cans of energy drink and some water.

At 5 a.m., he left the club and instructed Charles Otieno, who was in charge of security, to give Owino the gun.

He denied the claims that Owino had used the gun, stating that it had never happened for a gun to be returned to its owner prior to leaving a club.

A security guard at B club, Charles Otieno, confirmed that he was the one who kept Babu Owino's gun in the club's safe and returned it to Babu while driving DJ Evolve to the hospital.
