Police in Nairobi, Kenya, are looking into the death of a 28-year-old woman whose body was discovered in her apartment.

On Wednesday, June 21, early in the morning, authorities had to break into Faith Wanjiru Kirathe's home at the National Housing Corporation to access the body.

This is in response to her failure to wake up, which alarmed other family members. The dead slept alone in the room, the family members told the police.

They added they tried to wake her up by knocking on her door in vain as there was no response. They had to call the police because it was unusual for her to not wake up by 8 a.m.

When the police arrived, they smashed down the door and discovered her dead body in bed. According to the police, the body had no visible physical wounds at the time.

Prior to an autopsy, the body was taken to the mortuary. Adamson Bungei, the regional commander for Nairobi, said they wanted to determine what caused the death.

“It is a matter under probe for now. Let us wait,” said Bungei.

In the meantime, authorities are looking into an incident in Kiambaa, Kiambu County, where a 32-year-old man passed away after breathing carbon monoxide.

One Moverick Oteki Nyakambi had sent a text message to the caretaker of residential houses where he stayed saying “there was no need for postmortem”.

On June 20, after midnight, the caregiver received a text message, but did not take it seriously.

The caretaker unsuccessfully attempted to call Nyakambi's cellphone the following day after noon since it had been turned off.

He went to check on the tenant and discovered him dead, he told authorities.

A charcoal jiko that had burned overnight and was found next to the body is thought to be what killed the person.

The body was taken to the mortuary after police were summoned to the scene.

The suicide note was found in the house, according to the team, and will be sent to his family.

They stated that they are also looking into a suicide case.

Carbon monoxide poisoning, always referred to as ‘the silent killer’ happens when toxic odourless gases emitted from burning wood or charcoal mixes with blood and affects oxygen circulation in the body.
