President William Ruto on Tuesday intensified his call to convince Kenyans to contribute towards the proposed housing levy.
The Head of State was speaking in Nakuru during the Kenya Urban Forum 2023.
While answering questions in regard to the Affordable Housing Programme Ruto said so many people in Kenya don't have homes.
"Many people are asking me, 'Mr President, who told you we need houses?' So many people hawana kwao," he said.
Ruto added that seven million people living in slums don't have anywhere to go.
"They have nowhere. Many people cannot connect the dots between housing and jobs. More jobs will be created through this programme," he added.
"We owe it to them, their dignity, and the well-being of our citizenry and future generations. All our children will be in cities."
The President added that through the programme, his administration will be able to eradicate slums and increase the quality of living.
"Those people don't even have toilets, this is the narrative we are trying to change," he added.
Ruto said that the affordable housing fund will be utilised well and no corruption cases will be tolerated.
"We will ensure the fund is run professionally, with an oversight board helping us, we have so many bodies involved to make sure the funds are accounted for," he said.
