Cotu Secretary General Francis Atwoli has been elected the Vice Chairperson of the Worker's Group of the International Labour Conference in Geneva, Switzerland.

The Cotu SG took to his Twitter page to celebrate the news, saying he is grateful.

"I’m grateful for being elected by workers globally as the Vice Chairperson of the conference," Atwoli said.

The ILC is the highest decision-making body of the ILO and – uniquely in the UN system.

Each of the ILO's 187 Member States is represented by a delegation embodying the government, employers and workers in each country, and their respective advisers

It meets annually, bringing together the tripartite delegations from the organization's 187 Member States.

Catelene Passchier, from the Netherlands, was elected as the Chairperson for the Workers Group of the International Labour Conference.

She equally serves as the Vice Chairperson of the ILO Governing Body Workers.

This year's 111th session of the ILO will have three thematic areas of focus.

They include a transition towards sustainable and inclusive economies, quality apprenticeships, and labour protection.

The theme of the conference is "social justice for all".

Atwoli, who is a titular member of the ILO Governing Body, is leading a delegation of Kenyan workers comprising thirty delegates drawn from trade unions from Kenya.

The Kenyan workers delegation will participate in the committee discussion of the ILC which will come up with recommendations and conclusions that will, ultimately, improve the rights and welfare of workers globally.
