Flashy city businessman Kevin Obia seems to be in a world of financial hurt considering the news emerging about rent arrears for a house along Chalbi Drive in Lavington.

According to court documents accessed by Nairobi News, the flamboyant Obia is set to be auctioned on Wednesday, 24 May 2023 over the unpaid debt of Sh2.4 million.

Judith Wanjiku Kibaki, daughter of the late former President Mwai Kibaki, has accused Obia of failing to pay rent as per their lease agreement which was entered into on 1 March 2022

Obia was to pay a monthly rent of Ksh 350,000 on a two-year lease and to be paid on the 1st of each month, something that hasn't happened according to Judy.

“Since occupying the premises in question, the plaintiff has consistently failed to pay the monthly rent. As at 31 January 2023, the applicant (Obia) was in arrears of rent amounting to Ksh 2,780,000. He paid Ksh 996,000 on 28 February 2023 after receiving a demand letter from my lawyer,” court papers read.

Since her February 2023 application to seize his belongings, the two have filed and counter-filed in court with Obia saying he was going through financial challenges.

He even asked the court to allow him to pay Ksh500,000 monthly from 28 February 2023 to clear the rent arrears as he was also continuing to pay the Sh350,000 monthly rent.

But now the court has lifted the injunction Obia obtained in March that forbade Judith from evicting him and auctioning his house to recover her money.

Judith has since then advertised the items to be auctioned off on Wednesday, 24 May 2023. They are below;
