Kileleshwa MCA Robert Alai has raised an alarm over the increased use of Kuber. Kuber and Ndovu are becoming the most used drugs among high school children.

Kuber is a sweetened tobacco product that has more nicotine content than a cigarette. It is absorbed through the mouth by placing a pinch of the tobacco under the lower lip.

"Young people in high schools and colleges are now addicted to these things called Kuber and Ndovu," Alai said.

As a result, the ODM legislator wants the government to launch a crackdown on other drugs other than marijuana and illicit brew.

"Government must move with speed and crack down with speed on these things. It's killing families," Alai said.

He also questioned the Directorate of Criminal Investigations ( DCI) on whether the anti-narcotics unit is still operational.

"Hello @DCI_Kenya, do we have anti-narcotics still?" Alai posed.

In March 2019, National Agency for Campaign Against Drug Abuse raised an alarm over the increased use of Kuber in the country and wanted the Ministry of Health to regulate the use or ban it altogether.

Nacada claimed though the drug falls under the Tobacco Act, it has been spiked with hard drugs which include cocaine and bhang, making it highly addictive.
