A driver who was behind the wheels of a matatu that caused the death of a 17-year-old boy has broken his silence.

This is after a tout pushed a boy from a moving matatu and he was run over to death by the same matatu.

The driver identified as Geoffrey said he was not aware of what ensured in the bus.

"I carried people from Pipeline when it was full and we were heading to town. When we got near Kware, the conductor signalled me to stop to allow passengers to alight," he said.

“In the process of switching lanes to alight people, I felt like I had stepped on something like a stone. When I checked the side mirror, I saw it was a person.”

The Wednesday incident caused heavy traffic on Outering Road where the irate mob torched down the matatu.

The Chairman of Embassava Sacco Benson Njoroge apologised to the family for their loss.

He said the conductor did not push the boy because the door of the matatu was shut.

"We have followed through on the matter and as a Sacco, we are very sorry for what happened to the family. I talked with the brother and he told me that his brother had forgotten his phone and in the process of contemplating whether to go for the phone he was struggling with the conductor but the door was closed," he said.
