• Laws should be placed to curb the aggressiveness displayed by touts and drivers in the matatu transport business.

Recently there has been a rise in cases where matatu drivers or even the touts have harassed their customers.

Every day there is a case of unlawful behavior from either thieving touts or drivers.

Being insulted or body shamed by touts may be due to an argument.

People say they have even been insulted for merely asking for their change back.

Yesterday we heard two cases one of a 17-year old boy who was thrown out of a moving matatu and unfortunately got run over by the same matatu over Sh20 fare.

In another where a deaf woman was undressed by touts from a Sacco plying the Nairobi-Meru route due to not agreeing on fare costs.

While for some cases they have gone as far as sexual assault being involved.

Kenyans took to give their sentiments on the two cases.

writertech@writtertech·10hThese guys are very rude and their conductors are alighting with passengers fare.

Mwass@Mwass14933274Meru matatu conductors at the T room area are very rude and mishandle ladies young and old on a daily basis.

Jim@James_Jakendu·17h@kipmurkomen "It is barely 24 hours since a 17-year-old lad lost his life after being thrown out of a moving Embassava matatu, and now this. Please do something, it's urgent. Some action needs to be taken against rogue matatu drivers and makangas, please.

This though would not happen if there were bylaws placed to control the matatu operations.

Things like placing a supervisor at the main boarding stage to be able to assist in controlling who is announcing cost of transport or facilitating fare charges.

This is to prevent cases where a customer is asked to pay something different from what they were told when boarding.

Also going a step further to put out working emergency contact numbers one can call or report to in the incidence or occurrence of a problem while in the matatu.

Registering all drivers and touts in a system that shows what routes and times they operate so that in case anything happens the right person can be held accountable.

This will ensure nothing outrageous is done and the right response is sent to facilitate mediation.

Background checks to also be done before one is hired to drive or be a tout in the Sacco to ensure they are law abiding citizens.

Creating open channels and environments where one is not victimized for reporting any aggressive behavior.
