The mother to the outgoing Central Bank of Kenya governor Patrick Njoroge and archbishop Anthony Muheria has died.

Mary Agnes Njambi passed away on Monday evening, her family told Citizen TV.

She was undergoing treatment at a Nairobi hospital. 

Her family said she was an outstanding Lay Catholic leader and community mobilizer, who showed strength even during her illness. 

"She was outstanding in her courage and having mentored her children in diligence. May God rest her soul in eternal peace," the family said. 

Njambi was married to Thomas Ngugi and was blessed with eight children.
