Eliud Wekesa popularly known as 'Yesu wa Tongaren' on Wednesday presented himself to the police station for questioning after he was summoned.

This is after he was summoned by Bungoma police commander Francis Kooli.

Kooli summoned the leader of the New Jerusalem church for questioning over alleged questionable religious teachings.

Wekesa was accompanied by other members of his church.

"I have come to the police station because the OCS told me the county commander wants to have a talk with me and I said that I will honour, that and today I'm here," he said.

The preacher said that he has done no mistake since his teachings are godly.

He criticised the Shakahola cultic teachings saying if they are found guilty, the preachers should face the law.

This comes even as President William Ruto formed a Judicial commission of inquiry to probe the Shakahola cult deaths.

The commission has been tasked with establishing what led to the deaths of more than people in the church owned by controversial pastor Paul Mackenzie.

In a gazette notice, the Head of State said Lady Justice Jessie Lessit will chair the commission, together with sevens others.

The mandate of the commission is mainly to inquire into the deaths, torture, and inhumane and degrading treatments of members of the Good News International Church.

"The team will establish the circumstances under which the deaths and inhumane torture occurred," the gazette notice reads.

The commission will also inquire into the factors that lead to the rise of that particular religious extremist institution and other formations that fosters negative religion-based activities.
