Police in Limuru constituency in Kiambu county have arrested a suspect in connection with the murder of a 29-year-old lady on Tuesday night.

The lady was found dead at the Limuru town market. Businesses came to a standstill as many traders, residents, and passersby rushed to the scene.

However, detectives said that as they continued with investigations, they were informed that the suspect was last seen in the company of the deceased whose name was identified as Chebet.

Limuru sub-county acting police commander Paul Yator said that investigations have been launched to establish what happened.

He urged anyone with any information that may help them can pass it to his office, saying their officers are well-trained to handle tip-offs with confidentiality.

However, locals have raised concerns about insecurity, saying last week on Tuesday a boda boda rider was found having been killed at Kwambira area, which is about 1km from the Limuru market.

Simon Karanja, a resident has urged the police to conduct proper patrols at Limuru town and Kwambira, saying cases of mugging, robbery, and stealing happen even during the day time.

"We are fearing since cases of people being robbed by thugs who are armed with knives happen in this area even during the day," Karanja said.

He added that some thugs also rob people's clothes when they are on the drying lines.

"Some thugs are waiting for women to wash clothes. They waylay them and steal them. They run away and sell them as second-hand clothes far away," he added.

However, Yator said they were doing everything they can to ensure they have beefed up security in the sub-county.

The suspect is being held at the  Limuru police station as detectives continue with investigations.
