Two men linked to the murder of a waitress in Ruiru will be held for ten days to help police complete their probe.

A Ruiru Law Court on Monday, April 24 allowed police to detain Morris Njuguna, 28, and his cousin Francis Chege for 10 days for allegedly killing Risper Ndunge Vaati, 27, on the night of April 17 at Mitikenda estate.

Ndunge was the wife of Njuguna at the time of her murder.

Police believe Chege helped Njuguna in dumping the body of the woman 500 metres from their rented house.

Chege is also accused of being in possession of the mobile phone of the deceased when he was arrested together with the deceased husband in Mukuyu, Murang'a County late last week.

The two appeared before Ruiru Law Courts Principal Magistrate Catherine Kisiangani as police asked for more days to hold them as they continue with the probe.

Police wanted 14 days but the court allowed them to hold the suspects for 10 days.

The investigating officer Zablon Atubwa told the court police needed more time since they are yet to record statements from all witnesses.

Also yet to be retrieved is CCTV camera footage from a neighbour that police sources claim captured the two struggling to move the body from the scene of the crime for dumping.

The officer told the court the autopsy on the body is yet to be done.

Police plan to forward both accused’s mobile phones for forensic analysis at the Directorate of Criminal Investigations headquarters along Kiambu Road.

The deceased body had physical injuries on the right side of the head and on the right eye.

Police said it was found stashed in a black briefcase and later put in a polythene sack.

Njuguna has allegedly owned up to the killing over infidelity-related issues.

Police said Njuguna had confessed to the murder of Ndunge.

Chege was arrested in Makuyu after he was found with Ndunge’s mobile phone.

Njuguna took police to a shop where he bought the sack which he allegedly used to stuff the body of the woman before he left it about 500 meters from where they stayed.

He said he spent Sh150 on the purchase of the sack.

The murder happened on Monday, April 17 and the man stayed with the body in the house before he left it at the scene where it was found by neighbors.

Njuguna also informed the officers that the two were working in a hotel within Kamakis area where the deceased was a cashier and the suspect was a chef.

He informed officers that they had a domestic quarrel where the suspect hit the deceased on the head and killed her instantly.

The suspect then stuffed the body of the deceased in a suitcase that was in the house.

Njuguna led the investigation team to a shop where he bought a sack, which he used to dispose of the body in the nearby rental building.

Police said they were called to the scene and informed of the discovery before picking it up at the mortuary.

The police asked for a bed sheet from one of the tenants to cover the badly mutilated body as they processed the scene.

On checking, they realized the woman had an injury on the head and was half naked.

The body is lying in the mortuary pending autopsy.
