Motorcyclist crashed to death in Mombasa Road accident

The accident involved a trailer and a motorcycle whose rider had just dropped a pillion passenger at Green Park Gardens shortly before his death.

A motorcyclist has died after he was crashed by a trailer along the busy Nairobi - Mombasa highway.

Stephen Ngundo, 40, died on the spot following the accident that occurred at Green Park Gardens area in Athi River, Machakos, early Thursday.

Machakos county police boss Joseph Ole Napeiyan said the incident happened at about 6.00am.

 He said the accident was reported to Athi River police station as a fatal injury road traffic accident. 

He said it involved a prime mover/ trailer and the motorcycle whose rider had just dropped a pillion passenger at Green Park Gardens shortly before his death.

“It occurred today at about 0600 hours at Green Park Gardens along Nairobi – Mombasa road.

One driver namely Ezekiel Kamande was driving a motor vehicle, make Mercedes Benz prime mover/ trailer from Mombasa general direction towards Nairobi general direction.

On reaching at the location of the accident, he collided with a motorcycle make Honda that was being ridden by one Stephen Ngundo aged 40 years," he said. 

Adding

"The rider had made an abrupt U – turn after dropping a pillion passenger at Green Park Gardens area and hence collided with the said prime mover/ trailer.” 

Napeiyan said the rider was crushed to death due to the impact.

He said the scene was processed by traffic officers from Athi River police station and body removed to Shalom Community Hospital mortuary awaiting an autopsy.

The wreckage towed to Athi River police station for inspection.

Napeiyan said police had launched investigations into the accident.
