Foreign CS Alfred Mutua has faulted Wiper party leader Kalonzo Musyoka for his remarks that seemed to portray the Kamba community as cowards.
On Wednesday, Kalonzo while attending a burial in Machakos said Kambas should behave like the Luos if they wish to successfully back a presidential candidate in the future.
“If you Kambas behaved like Luos, this seat we would clinch the following day. The cowardice that we displayed… If we were like Musembi, the whole nation would take notice. These things are never given, they are grabbed. You go for it!” he said.
In a rejoinder, however, Mutua condemned the remarks saying the opposition leader is wrong for what he termed as "inciting the community into violence".
"It’s surprising that a leader of the stature of Hon. Kalonzo Musyoka who has built his career in diplomacy and peacebuilding would urge communities to violence," Mutua said.
Mutua decamped from the Azimio team a few months before the elections in 2022, leaving the Kalonzo team.
The CS condemned the instances of violence witnessed across the country during the Azimio la Umoja mass action.
He said the Kamba community will never resort to such action to push for an agenda they truly believe in.
"This is not because a certain community - Kambas in this case - are cowards. NO - it is because they are just not violent and do not approve of maandamano, violence, looting and destruction of property," he said.
Mutua also chided the Azimio team for resorting to demonstrations, saying Kenyans have a lot to deal with.
"You really want our relatives to burn their businesses in Machakos, Kitui, Mwingi, Wote etc to be seen to be brave? Engaging in violence and unjustified processes do not make one a hero," he said.
He said Kenyans have faith in the Kenya Kwanza government to solve most of the problems in the country.
On Sunday, after two weeks of street demonstrations that led to the death of three people and over 400 injured, and property of millions of shillings destroyed, Ruto asked Raila to call off the mass action and urged him to agree to a dialogue.
He proposed a bipartisan parliamentary approach to resolve the demands that had been raised by the Azimio la Umoja Coalition, including the formation of a new electoral body.
However, Raila said they had not agreed on the structure of the dialogue, and he proposed that a discussion be structured like that t of Koffi Annan’s team.
