Kirinyaga Governor Ann Waiguru recently met Hollywood star Salma Hayek Pinault who is in the country for projects related to the girl child.
The Telemundo actress is a passionate global advocate of gender equality, women's rights, and youth empowerment.
Waiguru took to her Facebook page and shared that;
"An awesome evening with Hollywood’s Salma Hayek Pinault. She's in the country working on a program that aims to reach 4m girls across our 47 counties, hosted by Girl Effect led by Jessica Odede."
The program focuses on teenage pregnancies, HIV, education, and women & youth empowerment.
Members present were: CS Health Hon Susan Nakhumicha, PS Gender Ms. Veronicah Nduva, Head of Mpesa Juliana Rotich, and Terryanne Chebet, among others.
Waiguru who spoke during an event hosted by Girl Effect, an NGO based in Nairobi in honor of Hollywood’s Actor Salma Hayek Pinault, said the country is making strides in addressing the inequality gaps.
Adding that counties are committed to addressing gender inequality gaps that hinder the girl child from realizing her full potential.
Apart from being an advocate for gender equality, the star is also one of the best Telemundo actresses and producers and she has featured in telenovelas like Teresa, Desperado, and Wild Wild West just to mention a few.
She has been often described as one of the most influential Latina actresses in American History.
In 2022, the 56-year-old actress took International Women’s Day to demand gender equality. The actress shared a photo on Instagram rocking the Chime For Change’s new Generation Equality capsule collection with Gucci.
The Mexican superstar wore a multicolored oversized T-shirt as a dress paired with a cap. The top featured the quote “Chime x Generation Equality” in the front, and the back reads, “None of us can move forward if half of us are held back.”
