Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua has given a stern warning ahead of Azimio demos on Monday, April 3.

Speaking on Saturday during a thanksgiving service, he warned those who are taking advantage of the demos to destroy property and said Monday will be their last day to do so.

"I want to caution those young men who have been taking advantage of the violence to steal property, to mug people to loot property, Monday is your last day to do so," he said.

The DP reiterated that the demonstrations are no longer peaceful but has turned into post-election violence.

"The laws of this country are clear this is no longer demonstrations, this is post-election violence, mugging, theft robbery including robbery with violence, those are felonies," he said in Malava.

"If they care, look at the penal code. The consequences are extremely heavy."

Gachagua said on Monday the government will assert its authority in protecting life, prosperity and upholding the rule of law.

"I'm just giving caution to those young people that it will not be business as usual. It cannot happen and it will not happen. Its wrong, immoral and unacceptable," he said.

Gachagua’s utterances come days after Azimio leader Raila Odinga said that Monday will be the “mother of all protests”.

Raila has been leading demonstrations to lower the cost of living, get inclusivity in choosing the next IEBC commissioners, and have the electronic voting system data opened.

Raila said that the demonstrations will be held every Monday and Thursday until the government heeds to their demands.
