When asked to explain if people need to notify police when holding Press conferences, Bungei said he is inquiring to establish more on the same.

The arrests come hot on the heels of a letter by Azimo leadership to Officer Commanding Station, Central Police Station Nairobi notifying him of Monday’s mass action.

“We notify you that on Monday, March 20, 2023, we will be holding a procession within the Nairobi metropolitan area,” the letter by the chairman of Azimio Executive Council Wycliffe Oparanya said.

“Kindly provide us with security for the same,” it added.

He has given Members of Parliament a go-ahead to transport more supporters from rural areas for the event.

On Wednesday, President William Ruto cautioned Azimio against chaotic protests on Monday.

The President tasked Azimio leader Raila Odinga with ensuring no life or property is put at risk during the demos.

"We have no problem with you organising demonstrations but please it is your responsibility to work with the police to make sure that the rest of the citizens of Kenya, their lives are not disrupted, their property is not destroyed, their business is not affected and they can go to work (then) you can carry out your demonstrations," Ruto said.

Raila has assured business owners in the CBD that they have nothing to worry about during the demos since no one will invade their business premises.

His assurance followed claims that their were plans to disrupt and invade businesses belonging to traders from the Kikuyu community.

"I want Kikuyu businessmen not to be scared. Let them not be disturbed by the propaganda, we are going to protect everyone's business," Raila said.
