At least two pedestrians were Wednesday evening injured when a building under construction collapsed along Moi Avenue, Nairobi.

Police and other witnesses said the sidewalls of the four-storey building which was under construction collapsed from the second floor injuring two pedestrians who were passing by.

The male and female victims were injured in the legs and were rushed to hospital in stable condition while one car was also damaged in the incident.

Nairobi police boss Adamson Bungei said the building known as Ritho House was under construction but there were workers at the site in the 4 pm incident.

He said construction experts will visit the site as part of the probe into the incident.

“We will have to establish what happened and why. It remains a crime scene for now because people were injured,” he said.

He said police will be involved in the probe before necessary action is taken.

Such incidents have happened in the city in a series amid calls for strict enforcement of the law to ensure general safety.

The National Construction Authority (NCA) and other relevant agencies are inspecting the structures under construction as part of efforts to contain the trend.

There have been complaints county authorities who approve the construction of the structures are compromised. They however deny the claims.
