Police in Ruiru area of Kiambu County are holding a suspect in connection with the murder of a 35-year-old woman last month.

According to Citizen Digital reports indicate that 50-year-old Christopher Kiptum Keter was removed from his hideout in the Mukuru Kwa Njenga shanty town of Embakasi on Tuesday, March 7.

He had gone into hiding since February 8, 2023, after allegedly killing Christine Makena Maingi.

According to police reports, Kiptum who is believed to be a pastor was the last person seen with the deceased.

CCTV footage and mobile phone communications recovered by detectives revealed that the two were together on the night of February 5 and 6 before Makena's decomposing body was discovered two days later at a residential complex in Gathogora area of Ruiru Sub-County.

At the scene of the crime, drugs were also found, giving investigators a preliminary impression that the deceased committed suicide by overdosing on drugs.

However, an autopsy conducted on the body of the deceased showed that she died due to hanging and removed the rumors of self-immolation.

Police reports continue to say that the suspect and the deceased met frequently at the deceased's home where he lived with his parents.

When the incident happened, the family members were traveling. Family members say Makena introduced the suspect as a pastor and they would meet regularly for prayer sessions.

The two met for the first time on a trip from Mombasa to Nairobi earlier this year. The suspect is in police custody waiting to be brought to court on Thursday for the crime of murder.
