Chemase Secondary School has been closed down indefinitely by the government following the rising tension at the institution.

Nandi county commissioner Herman Shiambi said the move to send 350 students was occasioned by the death of a Form 1 student.

The death of Kelvin Kiptanui,16, at Nandi-hills level 4 hospital following an alleged punishment by two teachers, sparked tension at the school.

It follows night long protest by the students and villagers accusing the institution authorities of trying to cover up the matter surrounding the student's death.
