Sports CS Ababu Namwamba has appointed Kungu Muigai to chair the Kenya Cultural Centre Council board.

Muigai, who is former President Uhuru Kenyatta’s cousin, has been appointed to head the council as a member and chairperson of the council with immediate effect.

Namwamba in a gazette notice dated January 20, 2023 said the appointment of Muigai will run for a period of two years.

Muigai, who is the Kikuyu Council of Elders patron, has been Uhuru’s critique and opposer and publicly endorsed President William Ruto during the last year’s general elections.

Before the elections, he had termed the said war of words between Uhuru and his then-deputy Ruto as a shame to the nation.

Muigai challenged his cousin to maintain the big brother demeanor because the mudslinging between the two was more embarrassing.

The termed the spat the two as a sibling rivalry, which is usually harmless unless it is taken a step further but warned the two might be cultivating a violent seed for the younger generation.

He further criticised Uhuru for what he termed as going against the elders’ agreement that saw Ruto back his candidature in the 2013 elections.

Muigai told elders that Ruto was the engine of Uhuru’s presidential campaigns in the 2013 and 2017 elections and defended his decision to support Kenya Kwanza.
