A student of the Technical University of Mombasa was found dead in a confusing situation just a few hours after calling his girlfriend asking for money to buy mandazis.
It is reported that the 24-year-old student Gregory Mutinda was found dead in his house by his girlfriend who told news sources that he had called her to ask her for 150 shillings to buy the pastries.
After Mercy told him that she did not have the money, Gregory hung up, and a few hours later when Mercy checked on him she found him dead on the floor.
The late and Mercy had a son together and had been at her home the day before.
"I was not there that day. But together with his friend they visited my place and spent the whole day with our son. In my mind, I knew everything was fine.
The next day we talked early in the morning around three in the morning and asked him if he was going to the workplace where he was working. He answered loudly and we said goodbye," said Mercy.
She said that after Mutinda hung up, a few minutes later he called her again this time with a strange request to ask for at least 150 shillings for snacks.
"I didn't have money in my Mpesa so I told him I don't have money, he kept quiet and hung up. At five o'clock in the morning, I sent Gregory a message but it was not delivered.
At nine o'clock I called him and he still didn't pick up and he never answered my call, I got worried and called his friend who told me he hadn't met him," explained Ms. Munyao.
The young woman decided to walk to the house where her boyfriend lived and looked out the window and saw him lying on the floor lifeless.
The police are now investigating the case to determine whether it is a case of murder or suicide.
