President William Ruto has defended his administration against criticism brought on by the rise in the cost of electricity.
Addressing the nation in a round table interview with the media, the President said the cost of electricity is determined by various factors.
He said the costs are contributed by various tariffs whose review is done after three years.
"The participation of the tariff was last done in 2019, and will be back in March 2023," he said
The tariffs are in three categories, namely, a lifeline for 30 units and below, that for the middle class and for large power consumers.
"When the time comes, we will seat down as a government and have a discussion," he added.
Ruto further said that the subsidies that were introduced by the previous government were politically motivated.
"The subsidy introduced was a political decision, not an economical one," he said.
He said the electricity subsidy was totalling an amount of up to Sh3 billion per month adding the move was not the last solution to the cost of living.
