The High Court on Wednesday dropped the murder charge against Gender and Public Service Cabinet Secretary Aisha Jumwa.

High Court Judge Ann Onginjo discharged the CS from the criminal proceedings.

"In consideration of the oral application made by the ODPP in November, followed by a letter from Coast Region Coordinator Hassan Abdi, Ms Jumwa is hereby discharged from the proceedings," Onginjo ruled.

Jumwa had been charged alongside her bodyguard Geoffrey Okuto with the murder of Ngumbao Jola who was shot dead in 2019 in Kilifi County.

This now allows for the CS to be a state witness in the murder case against her bodyguard Geoffrey Otieno Okuto.

DPP Noordin Haji had made the application to withdraw the murder charge against Jumwa, saying she will be a state witness.

Jumwa's lawyer, Danstan Omari had argued that Jumwa should be a state witness as the evidence against her cannot sustain a murder charge.

The lawyer added Jumwa does not own a gun and neither has she ever used one.

The CS had earlier written to the DPP seeking to be a state witness in a murder case against her.

Her defense lawyers on October 18 asked Haji to drop the case against their client, arguing that the evidence presented by three prosecution witnesses showed she was not involved in the shooting of Ngumbao.
