A man has collapsed and died shortly after he ordered for food at a hotel along Digo road in Mombasa.
The man whose identity has not been made public had not been served the food he ordered.
Witnesses say the man had walked into the restaurant alone.
“He had not even started eating maybe he was hungry”, said one witness.
Police arrived at the crowded scene to investigate the incident as tens of people milled around to witness the ordeal.
It was some minutes past midday and people were flocking the eatery for lunch but all of them fled after the incident.
A police officer privy to the matter says that some of those present at the time the incident occurred will be interrogated in order to rule out any foul play.
The officer also noted that it was too early to ascertain the cause of death but an autopsy will be carried out to help in the investigations.
The body was moved to the coast provincial teaching and referral morgue. Homicide detectives from the directorate of criminal investigations have commenced investigations.
