Mugoiri girl's student drowns during retreat

A form four student at Mugoiri Girls, Muranga drowned during a school trip on Sunday.

The outing almost turned double tragic after another student almost drowned trying to save her schoolmate.

The student was among over 380 finalists who had gone to a lodge in Kirinyaga on Saturday as part of refreshing their minds while preparing for KCSE exams.

The lodge is situated in a forest where the students were trekking for several kilometers to and fro.The death was confirmed by the school management via a Whatsapp text to parents.

The deceased drowned at a waterfall while other students, teachers, and some parents who had accompanied the students watched.

A few weeks ago a student from Nyahururu Elite Secondary School was found dead after he went missing during a hike to Mt Longonot.

Naivasha Deputy County Commissioner (DCC) Mutua Kisilu confirmed the death.He had been reported missing during a hiking session at Mt. Longonot in Nakuru County.

The boy was spotted by a multi-agency rescue team while approaching the peak of the mountain.

The boy had bruises on his hands, seemingly showing that he had fallen along the way, and was also breathing heavily by the time he was found.

The multi-agency team hence airlifted the student to a Nairobi hospital for medical attention, but he was declared dead on arrival.
