Former Pakistan Prime Minister Imran Khan has survived an attempted assassination attempt. The former chief minister got injured in a firing incident at one of his rallies. 

The BBC reports that he was wounded in the leg when a burst of gunfire hit his vehicle. One person was killed and at least five others were injured.

There was no immediate official comment on the motive for the attack which allies say was an assassination bid.

The protest march had been called to demand early elections. Mr Khan, 70, was leading the march, which was meant to end in the capital Islamabad.

The former international cricket star turned politician was seen being taken to a hospital in Lahore. A party spokesman said he had been hit in the shin.

He was in a stable condition but an operation was likely, aides said.

NDTV further states that Imran Khan was leading a protest march to Islamabad to demand snap elections.

Chaotic scenes broke out near Imran Khan's reception camp at Allahwala Chowk in Gujranwala after gunshots were fired, reported local channel Geo News. The report added that several people were injured.

There may have been two gunmen who fired - one with a pistol and another with an automatic rifle. One of them was seen being tackled and was later arrested.

This comes weeks after Pakistani Journalist Arshad Sharif, was shot dead by police in Nairobi, Kenya on Sunday (October 23) night,

The journalist was shot dead Sunday night along the Nairobi-Magadi highway in what police termed as a mistaken identity.

Arshad Sharif was shot in the head and killed by police after he and his driver allegedly breached a roadblock that had been set up to check on motor vehicles using the route.

They were driving from Magadi town to Nairobi when they were flagged down at a roadblock being manned by a group of police officers, police said.
