A two-year-boy who had a fork jembe lodged in his skull has succumbed during surgery at the Kenyatta National Hospital (KNH).
The death of the young boy was confirmed by his mother.
The mother said her son succumbed in the hands of surgeons at the health facility on Tuesday evening.
Reports indicate the boy was out playing with his friends and siblings on Tuesday when one of the children hit the little boy with the jembe.
The mother was away when the incident occurred.
Earlier today after public outcry on why it took long for KNH to attend to the patient, the hospital explained;
“The patient had lost a lot of blood and as a result, the clotting process was not occurring as expected thereby delaying the surgical procedure as this would have been dangerous to the patient."
According to them, the child had already lost a lot of blood preventing clotting- delaying the surgical procedure.
"The patient has since been stabilized and is currently undergoing a delicate operation in KNH theatres. We thank you for your concern and we assure you that the child is under the best care by our teams," the statement said.
Former Nairobi governor Mike Sonko mourned the young boy, with a confirmation that he had spoken to the mother of the deceased.
"Just talked to the mother of the baby a while ago to find out on the progress after the surgery. The baby has rested. It was a very painful death. May he rest in peace. Pray for the family 0769023091 the mother of the baby,".
