Late lawyer Paul Gicheru was facing six counts of bribery and interfering with justice in the ICC's case against President William Ruto and journalist Joshua Arap Sang.

After the court ruled that both Ruto and Joshua had no case to answer, an arrest warrant had been  issued to Gicheru earlier for offences against administration of justice.

Gicheru later surrendered to the ICC in 2020 as a personal decision to honour the arrest warrant.

Below are some conditions set for deceased lawyer Paul Gicheru before he was allowed to leave Netherlands after the court agreed to it.

1. To provide a physical location where the court could easily access him.

2. To provide copies of his passport, identity cards, travel documents and visas.

3. That he shall not travel internationally except to the extent permitted by the Chamber and shall inform the Registrar or his delegate, no later than seven days prior to any international travel.

4. To provide all his mobile and telephone numbers and always make sure that his phone had sufficient credit at all times.

5.He was barred from making any updates on his case either on mainstream media or on mainstream media, the progress was to b kept strictly private.

6. To provide financial security to the court's registrar in the form of cash or bank order to the value of Ksh1,000,000. 

7. In case of contempt of court, the deceased lawyer was ordered that his assets that were earlier on  presented in court would be seized and an arrest warrant to be issued in case of such an incident.

8.For him to be released he was asked to let the court track him movements and on condition that he would never miss a court day.

9."Shall comply fully with all orders issued in this case and surrender himself immediately to the relevant authorities if required by the Chamber," the Netherlands-based court said.

10. The lawyer was barred from contacting any of the witnesses.

Not much is known  especially how far the ICC case had gone until his demise on 26th September at his Karen home where he was found dead.

His final message to Kenyans was that they should endeavor to keep peace and harmony and live together as brothers and sisters irrespective of their differences.
