Nearly a week after taking office, Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua has not yet moved into his official residence in Karen.

Gachagua continues to stay in his Karen home despite President William Ruto moving to the state house the same day he took the oath of office.

Gachagua claimed in an interview with KTN News on Sunday that he needed time to process many of the events in his life before relocating there.

The DP claimed he has not yet come to terms with the fact that he is Kenya's deputy president.

"The things that are going on around me are very momentous. I'm yet to acclimatize, digest and accept the new situation and the status and all. It is very overwhelming. I will need to take some time but in due course I will move into the official residence,"  he said.

He added;

"I'm still here trying to figure out and in any case, there is no hurry, work is going on and in due course, I will move to the official residence, but I will need to digest all the changes, and all the things that are going around me."

The Deputy President added that, despite this, his family still holds great memories of his home in Karen.

"I have such an emotional attachment to this home, my children grew up here, my parents lived with me here for many years," Gachagua divulged.

"It is very nostalgic for me to walk away from a home where I have lived for 24 years,"
