Newlay appointed Chief Justice David Maraga won the hearts of many Kenyans after he was chosen to succeed former CJ Mutunga. Maraga has been described by many as humble, kind and religious man. He was brought up in a humble background in Nyamira County.

The 14th Chief Justice of Kenya promised to ensure that procurement cases are dealt with speedily during his swearing in and Kenyans are hoping that he will stick to his word. Maraga was officially appointed by President Uhuru Kenyatta on the 19th of October 2016, when he took the oath of office as the second Chief Justice in Kenya's new constitutional dispensation. This was followed by celebrations across the country so was it back home as well as in Nyamira County.

Family, relatives, and friends gathered to celebrate his victory at his rural home in Bosose and what caught the eyes of many was the "mansion" in the video that has gone viral. In the video, they can be seen singing and dancing but the buildings in the background left revelers ogling. Although it's not clear whether that is Maraga's home or if it belongs to one of his relatives, social media users have criticized him for living large while his family is languishing in poverty.

"You want him to build all his relatives a house, stupid thinking", read a comment by a social media user.

"Wonder why they are so poor.these guyz don't help their relatives," another user commented.
