It’s just last week that I had an interview with Rosalie Akinyi from Flag 42 Records. She’s young, vibrant, lively and full of swag. She came across as a really easy person, humble and a keen learner. We talked about her music, her immediate future plans and what came out of it is a really interesting story about her. I’ll be sharing the video interview in the next few days on Mpasho TV YouTube channel, so keep it locked.

Rosa’s new track is an Afrobeat, talking about her being swept away by “Mr. Stunting.” The bubbly girl, who revealed to me that she was once a tomboy, has a unique, husky voice that varies from deep to cool…I tend to remember Alicia Keys’ “No One” whenever I listen to her relaxing jams.

She’s amazing in the way she harmonizes her voice, takes you to a journey through the story she tells and leaves you craving for more! She’s got charm, wit and exemplar talent. She’s aware of where she’s headed to and I admire that. If you’ve watched Pitch Perfect, you’ll agree to this; when Beca (played by Anna Kendric) skips classes just to make mashups and perfect her voice – aiming for a recording contract or less – she believes in her ability and ends up being a star in the end. Same thing I feel with Rosa.

The new jam has cool beats, which have got a West African feel – talk of Tiwa Savage – but still manage to ooze an urban feel. Her inspirations include Kiduum and Emily Sande. Rosa listens to almost every genre of music, which makes her output amazing.

When should you expect her album?

There’s a lot in store. My fan base means a lot so the more they expect the better it gets.” She says that her album will have both new school RnB and Afrobeat. In the coming weeks, she’ll be dropping a track every week and we’ll be reviewing it on Mpasho’s Hit or Miss. Keep it Mpasho for the video interview up soon. Listen to her song below:
