'Mavi ya kuku!' That was Kenya's third president, Mwai Kibaki's go to phrase when someone spoke 'kak' about his leadership style or when he had to call 'bullsh*t' on political rivals. We loved his leadership style. He got things done without a lot of bureaucracy. Recently, the people in the interwebs went googoogaga over his grandson.

Mwai Kibaki kept his family away from the limelight and let the media concentrate on his track record as a statesman. Here is a hilarious video mash-up of Kibaki singing alongside other Kenyan politicians like Raila Odinga, president Uhuru Kenyata and Mike Sonko.

The youngest son of peasants, Kibaki Githinji and Teresia Wanjiku (both now deceased), Kibaki worked hard when he was admitted to Makerere University to study Economics, History and Political Science, and graduated on top of his class in 1955 with a First Class Honors Degree (BA) in Economics, recording one of the first, first class degrees at the 89-year-old institution.

One of his classmates, Dr Paul Mugambi remembers the future Kenyan head of state as a bright and active star speaking to Ugandan Monitor, he said, "“He was always a bright and engaging young man who always liked debates,” Dr Mugambi says of Kibaki adding, "He liked going to dances a lot and he was just as good.”

Kibaki was recently admitted into hospital and now the family has come out to update Kenyans on how he is doing.

In an official statement, they wrote:

"The Third President, H.E. Mwai Kibaki has been discharged from a Johannesburg hospital where he was admitted on 21 August 2016. President Kibaki is in jovial and high spirits. He will continue to recuperate for a few more days before returning home."

Here at Mpasho we wish him a quick recovery.
