Former President Mwai Kibaki's family is mourning the death of his elder brother Bernard Nderitu. The 88-year-old man died at his home in Kerere village, Nyeri County after he collapsed.

According to John Kibaki, the deceased's eldest son, the dad had been suffering from pneumonia

"My father was diagnosed with prostate cancer in 2003. Since then, he had been receiving treatment and the disease was in remission, however, during the cold season, he often had pneumonia, and we suspect that could be the reason he collapsed."

But the shocking bit is, the story has not gone viral as expected despite the fact that his younger brother Mwai Kibaki was once president. In an interview with a local media house a while back, the deceased told of how he sacrificed his chance to go to school for the sake of Mwai, who was a bright star in their family.

Contrary to popular opinion that Kibaki had abandoned his brother and that he had been living in abject poverty, Bernard's son told the nation that his father chose to leave a humble life away from the public glare.

Nderitu has left behind four sons and four daughters
