More than 6,000 people have been arrested and arraigned for contravention of curfew orders and related offences in the ongoing operation on those breaking COVID-19 pandemic rules.

More than 3,000 others have been detained for failing to wear face masks while there are 256 bars that have been closed in the past week when the operations began.

Some 463 vehicles have been detained in the period. Police say the operations are ongoing and have warned against contravention of the protocols as ways of addressing the surging cases of the disease.

More than 1,000 people have been killed by the disease in the country and the cases are surging. President Kenyatta announced the operations being conducted by police and county inspectorates.
