Last Saturday I attended The Arena Kenya young entrepreneurs meet up at the Desmond Tutu conference center in Westlands, Nairobi. The organization, headed by the Top 25 Under 25 woman by the name Tessy Cherono is aimed at creating a platform where youth can get to interact and share ideas with each other. Some of the topics explored included entrepreneurship and career advancement.

She gave advice on how to network your way to success.

"First of all, identify the type of event that you want to attend. You don't have to attend everything. Deliberately target the events that you want to attend. Carry your business cards and approach the right people in the room. Do it in a professional manner such that you don't come out creepy," she said. She advised against over-complimenting, hitting on potential business partners and other weird practices.

Enosh Masese, Intern, Bamba TV

Enosh gave valuable info on how to go about applying for an internship. He is an engineering major.

"You are supposed to have what it takes for you to be accepted for an internship position. You are to include extracurricular activities that you did apart from your main course. Once you get the opportunity, be positive in the workspace. Be humble and willing to learn even if the particular industry that you are working in is not in your line of interest," he said. Bamba TV is the fast-rising TV network in Kenya.

"In film, You have to be on your toes. People think that you just stand and press the record button on the camera and that's it...and you just get people walking in front of you. Well, it's a challenge; you have to run after what you want. In the midst of all that, you have to get your setting right, you have to make sure you don't miss the shot. You have to strive...if you do not have that shot and the other media houses have it, you'll have to explain why you missed it. It might even cost your job.
